The Alliance for Reproductive Health Rights (ARHR) has organized a two-day comprehensive training workshops for 75 adolescent health champions (AHCs) across three regions in Ghana respectively.
The refresher workshops, which form part of activities under ARHR’s RHESY project with funding support from UNFPA, were geared toward re-orienting and educating AHCs in the KEEA District in the Central Region, Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District in the Greater Accra Region, and Bosome Freho in the Ashanti Region on sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR).
The pieces of trainings were further aimed at empowering and equipping AHCs with the knowledge they require to lead healthy sexual and reproductive lives.
Topics discussed included personal and menstrual hygiene; teenage pregnancy and its related complications; sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and law; abstinence, contraceptives, and options available to adolescents; drug and substance abuse; decision-making and goals and assertiveness and negotiation skills.
Adolescents demonstrated deep knowledge and thorough understanding of topics discussed during these interactive trainings by drawing on personal experiences and anecdotes.
As change agents, these young people were tasked with leveraging their influence and leadership to share critical health information with their peers in their respective communities to enable them take control of their sexuality, make informed choices, reach their full potential, and improve their well-being.
