ARHR has successfully concluded a two-day blood donation drive in Accra, collecting 100 pints of blood to support emergency and maternal healthcare services across Ghana.
The exercise, held on 24th and 29th July 2026, formed part of ARHR’s 20th anniversary celebrations and engaged students from St. Margaret Mary Senior High School, Accra Technical Training Centre, Accra Wesley Girls Senior High School, and Kinbu Senior High School.
The initiative was designed to respond to the growing demand for safe blood in health facilities while promoting voluntary blood donation and preventive health education among young people.
ARHR, a Ghanaian non-governmental organization established in 2004, has over the years championed a rights-based approach to reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health. ARHR continues to advocate for stronger primary healthcare systems and equitable access to quality healthcare, particularly for vulnerable populations.
The blood donation exercise was carried out with huge technical support from the Ghana National Blood Service. Donors were screened by healthcare professionals to ensure eligibility, while health education sessions were also conducted to promote healthy lifestyles and encourage regular voluntary blood donation.
To enhance participation and donor experience, Arla Foods Ghana and Promasidor Ghana Limited provided refreshments for participants.
At the end of the exercise, a total of 100 pints of blood were collected. After processing, the blood is expected to benefit approximately 300 patients, particularly those in need of emergency and maternal care. Beyond the immediate health impact, the initiative also helped deepen students’ understanding of blood donation as a civic responsibility and reinforced the importance of preventive healthcare practices.
ARHR is grateful to all participating schools, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and partners for their support. Special appreciation goes to the National Blood Bank, Arla Foods Ghana, and Promasidor Ghana Limited for their contributions to the success of the exercise.
ARHR reaffirms its commitment to strengthening partnerships that improve healthcare delivery and save lives across Ghana.
