Courtesy Call on First Lady of Ghana

ARHR and its partner, Comic Relief, UK, has paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana on Wednesday, 30th January, 2019.

The visit, among others, was to deliberate and share ideas on the First Lady’s initiative to end malaria in Ghana; a similar project which is being implemented by ARHR with funding from Comic Relief, UK.

The engagement with the First Lady was necessitated by Comic Relief’s visit to Ghana with the aim to explore and gain insight on its work with its various partners which include ARHR.

With funding from Comic Relief, UK, ARHR is implementing a malaria project titled ‘Bridging gaps: Innovate for Malaria’ which seeks to build the capacities of community based organizations (CBOs) and communities on their health rights and responsibilities; increase community knowledge on the national malaria service package; generate evidence of health facilities’ adherence to national guidelines for malaria control and prevention; undertake participatory monitoring of community perspectives and experiences with malaria control and prevention mechanisms; and eventually advocate at national and sub-national levels for improved malaria control and prevention services.

This project is being implemented in Bodi, Juaboso, Mpohor and Nzema East districts in the Western Region of Ghana and the primary target beneficiaries are pregnant women, older women of reproductive age, young people and male partners of pregnant women and children under 5 years old.

At the end of the meeting, commitment to intensify the fight against malaria in Ghana was shown by all parties.
